BBC RADIO 2 IN THE PARK
WELCOME WINDOW MURALS
This September, Chelmsford will host another major music festival with BBC Radio 2 in the Park set to take place in Hylands Park from Friday 5 to Sunday 7 September.
Radio 2 is the UK’s most listened to radio station with a weekly audience of 13.1 million. Most of Radio 2’s presenters will descend on the city for their flagship live music festival and all the action will be broadcast on Radio 2, BBC Sounds and BBC iPlayer over the weekend.
The three-day festival is expected to generate a major boost to Chelmsford’s economy, presenting fresh opportunities for local businesses. Tickets holders for the festival are expected to arrive from across the country, and walking routes from the railway station include passing through our busy and vibrant city centre, as well as through our parks and via the bus station if they are picking up a shuttle bus to Hylands Park.
To give new visitors to our city a big welcome, and create a great atmosphere for local people and residents, Chelmsford City Council are looking to commission local artists to create a series of window murals for city centre businesses. These murals will look to celebrate the arrival of the event, music acts and artists on the exciting line-up and celebrate Chelmsford’s links to music and its identity as the birthplace of radio.
We are looking for artists to create these murals for a selection of local businesses and would love to hear from you if you are interested. To apply you must:
Be over 18 years of age
Be able to provide a PLI and Risk Assessment
Be available to install your piece between Monday 18 – Sunday 24 August at the business you have been allocated
Create a design that includes music artists on the line-up, a music event scene or give a nod Chelmsford’s links to music and radio
Create a design that is family-friendly, enjoyable for all visitors, with non-offensive language/ imagery
This opportunity will be paid, and you will receive a commission of £350 for your work, from design to installation. You will also be credited for your piece and feature on social media campaigns led by Chelmsford City Council, Chelmsford for You, Hylands Estate, and other businesses linked to this project. We also encourage you to share your work on your own social media pages.
If your expression of interest is successful, a member of the team will be in touch between Thursday 14 – Friday 15 August with more information about where you have been selected to create and install your work. Please note, all windows vary in size, and dimensions will be provided.
If you are interested in applying to be a part of this city-wide event, please complete the below application form with your details by Wednesday 13 August 2025.
