CHELMSFORD’S CHRISTMAS COMMUNITY AWARDS FINAL ROUND OF VOTING IS NOW OPEN…
A Huge Thank you for all of the wonderful nominations you submitted in this year’s Chelmsford Christmas Community Awards, it confirms that Chelmsford really is full of some AMAZING people!
This year, we’ve received some truly inspirational nominations for your local heroes, across all three categories:

⭐️ Environmental Champion
Our judging panel, which included this year’s award sponsors Zambrero, had the difficult task in whittling down your fantastic nominations to a short list, which we’re excited to announce is now OPEN for you to vote for your winners!
The vote will close at 11:59pm on Sunday 17 November so be quick!
The winners will be announced at our Christmas Light Switch On event on Sunday 24 November on our Main Stage hosted by Sara and Will which will see them switch on the 2024 lights, kicking off ‘Christmas In The City’ right here in Chelmsford.

Environmental Champion Shortlisted Nominations
Nominee: Chelmsford Litter Wombles
Nomination: A group of people that in their own time collect litter around Chelmsford, they go out as individuals as well as groups, this is organised through a Facebook group. They have a positive impact on the environment by keeping the roads and verges clear of rubbish.
Nominee: Richard Lee
Nomination: Richard contributes towards a greener environment through regular litter picks with his children both on land and on our rivers across the district and campaigning to protect open spaces in his neighbourhood. For a safer environment he organises a Community Speedwatch Group across Springfield, and striving towards a brighter environment he has been an artist for Concrete Canvas, and contributor to other street art across our City. A man of may environmental hats!
Inspirational Adult Shortlisted Nominations
Nominee: Deborah Layton-Smith and Aran Layton
Nomination: After the birth of their sleeping baby, Deborah and Aran have put their heart and soul into raising money for the blossom suite at Broomfield hospital. Through clothing sales, charity football matches, half marathons and mud runs, they have raised over £10,000.
Nominee: Edith Miller
Nomination: Edith is a local lady who with her boundless drive and enthusiasm and impressive organisation skills as the CEO of The Art Place has over recent years made a real difference to the Community life of our city.
As a local charity, The Art Place under Edith’s control, supports around 80,000 residents, including transient communities such as students, refugees, and asylum seekers.
Now in its 9th year, it is about belonging and connecting diverse people through small-scale creativity to support wellbeing in Chelmsford.
Nominee: Judith Pickess
Nomination: Judith has been a Brown Owl and running Brownies in Great Baddow twice a week for the last 50 years.
She’s seen her Brownies grow up and their girls become Brownies and then their children become Brownies too.
She works very hard and plans endless activities and weekends away at all sorts of places and day trips too. For the last 50 years she has worked hard and still working hard at the age of 68. She takes great pride at what she does and said she will go on until she does 60 years and even 70 years. I believe Judith is a worthy winner of this competition.
Inspirational Young Person Shortlisted Nominations
This year, our Inspirational young persons shortlist has been put forward to an independent judging panel and will not be open for public vote.
Nominee: Evelyn Baldwin
Nomination: Evelyn is a young volunteer at South Woodham Ferrers youth club - she plans & lead activities, inspires young people and encourages them to join in. Evelyn has had a huge impact on new young people who have come to the club and have been particularly shy, she's spent time with them, built a positive rapport and introduced them to others. Evelyn has a positive attitude and even offers her own resources to share with others in the youth club. She is a fantastic artists and loves to share her skills with young people at youth club.
Evelyn is also a young carer and looks after her younger brother and supports her mum at home. Evelyn has educated herself on Autism so she can support her brother in the best way, advocating for him and encouraging him in everything that he does.
Evelyn is eager to learn and is honest, kind and respectful. She is very caring and empathetic towards the needs of her peers and is always the first to jump in a support others.
Nominee: Olivia Carey
Nomination: I would love to nominate Olivia, who is only just 4 years old and ran 10km over the month of September and has raised £1040 for The Liam Taylor Legacy who put bleed control units into our local communities. She has worked really hard to do these races and to raise funds to keep our local Chelmsford community safer. She will be donating bleed bags using the money she raised to go out into our local schools in Chelmsford.
